Day 13 - Friday 15th November

No cycling today.
I am now in Beverley. See map:

I had noticed my brakes were fading and decided to check and adjust them this morning. It was ucky I did, as all 4 blocks had completely worn down. Brian ran me to Halfords and I bought a new set which I have now fitted.

Day 12 - Thursday 14th November

Scarborough to Beverley
Miles today: 49
Miles so far: 363

I checked out of the hotel at 8:15 and nipped into Aldi to buy drink for my journey and a few packets of Lebkuchen on special offer. By 8:30 I was on my way. As I left Scarborough, this was the view behind me:

There was a 16% climb (that's 1 in 6 in old money) for 3/4 mile just outside Scarborough. Apart from that, it was a pretty flat or even downhill route.

Within 2 hours, I was coming up to 20 miles, and my rarely achieved 40 miles before a 1 o'clock lunch was actually achieved today.

It soon became apparent that my arrival time was going to be nearer to 2 than 4. Even with another rest, I still managed a 2:15 arrival in Beverley. It was nice to finish early before nightfall and rush hour traffic.

As always, with Brian and Susan, I have been well looked after and fed.

A lazy day tomorrow before 59 miles to Wakefield on Saturday.

Day 10 - Tuesday 12th November

Ingleby Barwick to Scarborough
Miles today: 59
Miles so far: 314

Beautiful weather today; blue skies and sunshine all day - although it did go very cold about half past four when I was hoping to have finished but was still an hour away from my destination.

I left Ingleby Barwick at 8:15 and did some gentle hills in the morning, arriving in Whitby just after lunch. From Whitby to Scarborough was about 20 miles along a disused railway line. These are usually quite flat but not today. Over a few miles, the elevation increased by almost 500 feet then descended again.

The coastal views were fantastic

and I wondered if the Victorians used to see the same views from their steam train. (A question for Peter Bamber!)

Another visit planned for tomorrow then 50+ miles to Beverley on Thursday.
